What GPA do you need next term?
What is being calculated, and how
Your GPA is the average of your grade points, with each course counted by its credits.
Convert letter grades to points
Each letter maps to points on the 4.0 scale (A+ can be 4.0 or 4.3).
Add the course-level bonus
Honors adds +0.5. AP, IB and dual credit add +1.0. An F gets no bonus.
Points = grade points + level bonusMultiply by credits
A full-year class is often 1 credit and a semester class 0.5, so longer courses count more.
Quality points = Points × CreditsDivide by total credits
Add up the quality points and divide by total credits. P, W and I grades are excluded.
GPA = Σ(Points × Credits) ÷ Σ CreditsCumulative and goal math
Previous quality points are your past GPA × past credits. The goal planner solves for the average you need.
Needed = (Target × (Total credits + New) − Total points) ÷ New
Your calculation
Unweighted GPA uses the same formula without level bonuses. Schools differ on weighting, rounding and scales, so confirm with your counselor or registrar. Method based on formulas published by Inch Calculator, CalculatorSoup and gpacalculator.net.
